If You Don’t Ask, The Universe Can’t Deliver!

read all about it

Happy Holidays, Dearest!

Did you believe in Santa when you were a kid?

If this tradition wasn’t part of your cultural upbringing let me share what it was like. It was a time when anything was possible. Consumerism aside, the big guy in the red suit still reminds me of the cheerful, hopeful kid inside. I love Santa to this day. If you’re feeling like you could use a dose of magical thinking to lift your spirits and launch your desires, especially as you head into the new year, this blog might get your creative juices flowing again.

And in case you need a refresher, here’s the kind of Santa-joy I’m talking about…

Now, more about Mr. Claus.

A jolly chap from a whimsical land works with elves to make toys and gather presents for all the children in the world. Some elves are the craftsman, others do gift wrapping and card writing. Reindeer cruise around without predators and everyone lives in happy harmony. Mrs. Claus (an incredible pastry chef) serves cookies for breakfast, gingerbread houses for lunch, and pudding for dinner—and nobody gets diabetes.

If you make it to the “nice” list, meaning you didn’t pull your sister’s hair all year, you’d be poised to score some serious loot. However, if you found yourself in the unfortunate position of being on the “naughty” list, well, you’d probably get scratchy wool socks and a book about something that would make you a better person. You know, self-help stuff.

Some of my top requests included a Fisher Price record player (however, I did not ask for the Janis Ian soundtrack that accompanied it, my mom must have slipped that in for herself), a pink Huffy bike, and Wonder Woman boots. I never got the boots, but I loved putting my desires out there and I learned to have gratitude for whatever I received—whether it was on the list or not.

As an adult, sometimes it’s hard to believe in a magical connection to an unseen world that works on our behalf. Today, as you reads this blog, I dare you to wish and dream again.

If you’ve forgotten or stopped believing in your power to manifest then this is a fun reminder that the universe is ready to fulfill your wishes. However, it can’t know what to give you if you don’t tell it. Bake some cookies, pour some almond milk, and start writing your letter to the universe. Shoes are fine, but I’m more interested in soul cravings. Get out of your head (ego) and into your heart (soul). Kick-start the domino effect of the law of attraction. Nothing is too big, small, weird, or wild.

What emotions come up when you think about your wants? Happy, tired, sad, inspired? If your wants create exhaustion in your body perhaps they’re not right for you. If they ignite joy, go for them.

Now ask yourself, are you willing to meet the universe halfway?

Action is required. It’s not a free ride, even kids had to do something (be kind) to get what they wanted. There’s a funny joke about a guy who prays to win the lottery but never does. He complains and complains. Finally, one day, the Universe or God says, “dude, you gotta buy a ticket!”

This next bit is really important. How will you know when you get there—when you got what you wanted? I don’t know about you, but sometimes I’m so busy doing that I don’t notice (and appreciate) what I’ve already received. Stay alert and set a measurement for your success.

Above all leave room and trust. Sometimes the universe has a much bigger plan for you.

The fulfillment of your desires can come in the shape of a gift or the form of a much needed lesson. Either way, you are deeply loved and everything is possible.

From my family to yours, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

Your turn tootsie: Feeling brave? Share a wish. Put it out there. We’ll send them all to the spiritual North Pole and let’s see what happens! xo

Peace and bells,

Well, it’s now nearly 2016 and I re-read your post lying awake with jet lag! I was stressing tying to pin point one thing I want amongst the many, and I realised that all I ever need is to learn to make decisions which are true to myself. Here’s to 2016 when I just become more of myself. XOX

Hey Kris! I just finished Crazy Sexy Diet and I’m on day two of my adventure cleanse! I wish to let go of my fears and welcome whatever the universe has in store for me! I wish to radiate kindness and love.

  4. Lindsay says:

I love this! So what I needed to hear. Thanks for putting this out there, and letting me do the same.

Lately I’ve been struggling with applying the Law of Attraction in my life — specifically, that I don’t know if I am in a position where I can take the opportunities the Universe/God presents and run with them. I’m a full-time mom to a 4-year-old and 1-year-old twins, so yeah, I’m a busy lady. I have very little time to pursue my own passions, and when I finally do get some alone time, I’m too exhausted to really use it for what I want. And then I finally realized, I can ask God/the Universe to help me find the time and the mental & physical energy to work on my goals, without it negatively affecting all my other responsibilities. And wouldn’t you know it, things are happening — MUCH quicker than I expected!

My dream for the last decade has been to use my past struggles with bipolar disorder and depression to help people find their own joy in life, no matter the hand they’ve been dealt. I the past I’ve had opportunities to use my writing in various places to do just that, but it’s been a scattershot effort. Now, my wish for the year is for my fledgling website take off (no pun intended) so I can do that regularly, consistently, and really help people — thousands of people! — find the strength and turn their lives around.

OK, Universe, it’s on you. Do your stuff!!!

  5. Rachel says:

Kris, you are an amazing person! I love your recipes, especially since they are all ones I can eat! (I’m dairy and egg free due to allergies)

For this year, I ask that I get help in finding customers for my cooking classes and online courses. I have a few right now, but I’m wanting a lot more!

Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

  6. Donna says:

Wonderfully said! I have never stopped believing in the magic of Santa I truly believe that is what keeps my heart young. Whenever I feel down Christmas music brings me back. Thank you for sharing this.

  7. Jodi says:

I seem to sport the Gemini traits of being unfocused and having a lack of direction. Ironically, spending much time thinking about how achieve focus and direction.

  8. Julie says:

As I read the comments & wishes here, it strikes me that you’ve provided a sort of collective, energy-gaining space to help draw in what we came here for – to live what’s in our hearts. Thanks for doing this, Kris 🙂

I ask the universe to hear my commitments and help me manifest them in my life:
    – I will work as a teacher in a context where kids are respected, enthused, joyful, inspired, and eager to learn in a way that nourishes them to be creative, powerful, autonomous beings.
    – I will offer this way of learning to my daughter so that she may find immense joy, freedom and enthusiasm in her learning.
    – We will find the perfect place to live that will provide a balance of nature, beauty and loving, mindful, healthy community.
    – I will fully let go of the limiting perspectives that do not serve me and be crystal-clear aware of this dynamic.
    – I will access my heart’s vision and be healthy physically, emotionally and mentally.

Ok, I began with some degree of trepidation and ended with inspiration! I am happy to send this out to the universe and to those of you who will read it!

I hope that 2015 brings an exponential growth in both joy and gratitude for all 🙂

    Best,
    Julie

  13. Leonie says:

    Dear Universe
I want to move back to were I came from but unsure if it’s the right decision and economically possible for me to do so. My current life is stable but is this all there is? Should I be grateful with what I have or can I make my dreams a reality? It scares me especially since around me, I have seen so many people that were very dear to me, pass away before reaching their potential, Please Universe, show me the way to find my destiny or tell me this is it.

  14. Rebecca says:

My wish is to live and love fully and freely! In health, wealth, and harmony. To enjoy my magical soon-to-be new home in Evergreen, Colorado in peaceful quietude. To share with loved ones. To conserve our beautiful, natural world. To give even more to my favorite for-purpose organizations. And to have even more time to create inspiring art to to help everyone appreciate and love nature and all life. And so it is! Thank you, Chris! Blessings to all, and to all love, light, and peace on Earth.

  15. Mia says:

Kris, thanks for creating this forum and for reminding us to wish and believe.
    __________

Alright Universe, I continue to speak it and write it and think it and wish it and will it…

We are ready for our baby. Three miscarriages in a year and a half is heartbreaking, but it did not break us. I am learning. Learning from grief and the unknown. I am learning to be tougher than I ever thought possible. I am learning to not blame myself or lose faith in my amazing body. I believe.

We are ready for our baby. The little perfect being that we make and “bake” and deliver into this world in 2015.

  16. Nina says:

I have been wanting to have a child for many years – tried many ways. I am tired now, but still have my wish. So if it is the right thing for me and the whole world, I still wish for a child. Also a family, traditions, love and ease for me and everybody who I am somehow influencing.

I am embarking on a plan to retire to California next year with my husband..Our bucket list… There is lots to do, get the house ready for sale and continue to imagine what our life will be like living there. The timing feels right and if I live in the present and take each day and each challenge one step at a time, I find that I am more at peace with myself and less fearful of the unknown.

  21. Neli says:

You couldn’t have posted this at a better time, Kris. My partner and I are currently planning our own business, an idea that’s come a long time in the making. I’m goal is that I’ll FINALLY be able to quit the job that drains me. Another dream that I’m hoping to develop in the next few years is moving to Scotland and going to the school of my dreams for my masters.

However, that being said, I am grateful that I live in a beautiful city, with the man of my dreams by my side, my best friend always being there for me, and my lovely purrrfect kitty. Thank you for reminding me that magic does exist, even if I can’t see it happening right now.

  23. Stacey says:

Thank you for reminding me that you’re never too old to believe in Santa. Thank you for bringing such good energy. When I first read your Crazy Sexy series, I was hooked. And going through cancer treatment myself, it inspired me and continues to give me hope.

My wish is that I kick cancer to the curb for good!

  24. Vickie says:

In 2014 I started learning about putting things out to the universe. I actually threw out that I felt I was going to lose my job where I was miserable. Well, low and behold I was laid off. What a blessing that has been!! I have since been in a constant state of gratitude and another job found me. This position will be SO much better for me.

  25. Susan says:

    First ,kris,your a blessing!

  26. M says:

My wish is for healing, for love and community. And to be ready for/ open to the changes that are coming.

  27. Sarah says:

    Kris,
What you said in this blog post really resonated with me today. As a child I loved art and drawing. Even up into my late twenties I read manga and watched anime from Japan. Well, a few days ago I made a vision board and I put a bunch of pictures on anime characters on it attached to my dreams for 2015. I am 30 years old and I have been telling myself that I am too old to learn to draw and make my own artwork. I have been really unhappy in my life too. Next to spirituality on this vision board I made was a anime girl walking beside a Shinto temple. I had a anime girl with headphones on her head and put, “I relax each day. I listen to music, read, journal.” Another goal I attached was going back to my childhood and pulling up my interest in art. I put down that I would go back to college for graphic design. I guess what I am trying to say is our culture tends to frown upon childish dreams and reflecting back on your childhood. I guess that was why I attached images from anime. I was really happy when I read a graphic novel in my youth, which many in our culture frown upon. They teach classes on how to draw Japanese comics in professional art schools now. I just liked this article. When we are kids we are closest to what we really want to do. Sometimes being this responsible adult does NOT makes us happy. And we are NEVER too old to learn to do something we love. 🙂

  28. Nathalie says:

My wish is not a wish but a special thanks to you Kriss for being who you are 🙂
I read you and i follow you from Belgium and you give me a beautiful feeling of peace….maybe my wish is to meet others beautiful persons like you.:-)
Sorry for the errors…english is not my language…

  29. Shelly says:

    Merry Christmas Kris!

Thank you for this reminder of the inner joy we have with us all the time! I guess my wish is to be brave enough to try and maybe fail at things I’ve always wanted to do and to trust that I’m ok if I don’t get it perfect…this is something I tell my children, but need to live myself. I also wish to make more time for myself so that I can do all the things that make me joyful.

    ~ Shelly

  30. Sondra says:

I love this comparison of asking Santa to asking the Universe; it really hits a chord.

My wish is to find “my people” in LA. People who aren’t only fun to hang out with, but people whose souls communicate with and encourage mine. Even one person this year would be the best!

  31. Isa says:

    Dear Universe,
I whish I could find myself again. These past two years have been particularly difficult on those terms.
I whish to find my path to harmony and peace in the middle of my new family role. So many things have changed and I could not adapt myself… I am looking for my path and still haven´t found it.
I know you will help me in finding my inner me and my inner peace.
I know I am where I should be so that I can learn the lesson. So here I am, being na active seeker for a peaceful mind.

    With love,
    Isa

    Dear Santa,

My wish is for love and a family of my own. I want so much to share my life with my soulmate, the man who will help me grow and bring the most Light to the world. Not just for me, but also for my parents who long to have grandkids. I’ve been waiting a very, very long time and truly hope 2015 is the year.

  36. Gabriela says:

Thank you for all your kind words and wishes:

God, I only have one request in my heart complete healing for my children and myself from all our ailments and diseases. Thank you Lord for everything I have now and for what is on its way.

Merry Christmas and wishing 2015 is your best year ever.

  37. Dawn says:

I adore you Kris! Thank you for helping us all put it out there to the Universe.

I want to really shine in my business this year. To find my tribe and help people on a larger scale, while letting go of the need for perfection or the fear of failure.

I’d also like to find a nice piece of land in Ulster County to park a sweet Airstream on so my boys and I can escape NYC from time to time to reconnect with nature and each other.

Happy Holiday and may all of your dreams come true in 2015!

  38. Sandi says:

Thank you for the dose of positivity and an excellent reminder to ask specifically for what we want.
So, universe, my wish is for all obstacles to disappear within a relationship. I have an awesome man to share my life with, yet there are some things keeping us apart. This is the year for us to receive the start of our future…and begin our happily ever after.

  41. Kashawn says:

This was a great read and an amazing reminder to just ask for what you want and wait for the universe to help you achieve it! My wish for my life is to learn to get out of my own way. To be able to care for my mom, my family and my future children.

  42. Sarah says:

Hello universe. Please help me. I need to be healthy for my two young beautiful children, my amazing fiance and myself…. Please keep me to cure my thyroid and all other health problems I may have….I deserve to be happy and have energy to keep up with my babies. Thank you in advance for my healing 🙂

  43. Martika says:

“What emotions come up when you think about your wants? Happy, tired, sad, inspired? If your wants create exhaustion in your body perhaps they’re not right for you. If they ignite joy, go for them.”
I needed this today–my eating disorder comes out strong in these times, and that’s an exhaustion I don’t need. To say I want to lose weight, and then it causes that much stress and pain? When I could use that energy to planning a trip with a dear friend, which ignites pure joy? Your books and articles are the closest I’ve come to escaping my disorder, so keep the inspiration coming! Thank you, Merry Christmas, and blessings to you!

  44. Lalala Christmas says:

I wish you a merry christmas Kris, to you and all your family. I hope that your dreams will be fullfilled and that you are happy where you are. Thanks for all the advices you share throughout the year. I’m grateful for having met you on my spiritual path for your wisdom and strenght are admirable.
As for me i wish to get a bit moe closer this new year to knowing what relaxed and joyful means and to continue my artistic path, aware that the blocks and hard times never last. I also wish for everyone, our souls, to get more insights of what is essential to heal this planet.
    Lots of love from Montreal,
    S.

  46. Alison says:

I wish for every thought and action of mine to be rooted in gratitude and love instead of fear. Also would love some help from the Universe in kindling a fire in my belly to be brave and go after the things I want!

  47. Lucy Ladley says:

Kris, Thank you for being an example for all of us in your sweetness & joyful spirit. My desires for myself – to be sweet & kind & to be blessed with financial abundance so I can be a blessing to others in action & financial contributions. Many Blessings to you Kris, your family & your readers.

  48. Jo Peirson says:

Thanks for the lovely festive blog Kris. I still get to enjoy the magic of Santa through my son, he’s six.

As for my dream for next year – to launch my own business as a Virtual Assistant. I’ve spent all of this year figuring out the ‘what’, next year is all about the ‘how’ and the ‘just do it!’.

I wish you and your family a happy and blessed festive season from me and mine. Thanks for all you do and share.

    Jo
    xx

  49. Kris,

    I REALLY needed this today.
I’m hitting that point in the holiday season where I witness all of the chaos, and the not-so-mindful consumerism/commercialism and am asking myself “what is this really about?” “do people even know anymore?”
I love giving, I love the holidays. But the true spirit can get lost.
The magic, the joy, the dreams and the wishes.
I am so grateful you reminded me it’s still there.

I have two BIG wishes Universe: to find a way to continue improving my health while making my dreams a reality, and to gain some more capacity for being comfortable with the unknown.

    Happy Holidays everyone.

PS- I had the fisher price record player too 🙂

  50. Cynthia says:

I just love this post! What a fabulous way to discuss believing. Thank you so much for sharing this! Merry Christmas:)

  51. Cathrin says:

    Thank you for sharing, Kris!

My wish is to finally get some great dancing jobs! I have been at such a long journey with my dream to become a professional dancer and to make a living out of it. Spreading my love through my dance, my biggest passion.
And I think I am ready now to release all the fears which has been keeping me blocked and not being open to recieve all the great opportunities out there! Thank you and merry Christmas from Denmark (almost Northpole 😉

I wish for clarity around my wants – I have a lot of seemingly disparate things I’m interested, so I’m wishing for guidance on how these can all come together in 2015. And, I wish for clear messages about the path I’m meant to take. AND (finally), I wish to continue to have angels by my side. I met several in 2014 and I can only wish to be as lucky in 2015.

Happy holidays Kris!! Much love to you. xx

  57. Court says:

    Kris,
    Thanks for asking!
I am wishing for love, creativity, and abundance.

    Thank you so much,
    Court

  58. Kimberly says:

    Thanks, Kris!!!

    Dear Universe,

My goal and desire is to transition from one career I’m passionate about (independent graphic design) to my next career (independent wellness), while being financially able to support myself and thrive.

I desire to NOT take a full-time job without giving my dreams a chance, out of fear of failing.

    xoxo,
    Kimberly

  59. Galit says:

Dear amazing Kris, Happy Holidays to you and your family (fur babies and all).

    I AM LIGHT I AM!

  60. Jenn says:

My wish for 2015 is to be an even better version of myself. I downloaded your book, Kris. Read it cover to cover (well IPad page 1 to the last) and have been so inspired by your message. Your positivity and overall awesomeness has been just the “kick” I needed to start looking internal and finding my vibrant me again. 2015 will be the year of Jenn and her health and happiness!

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and an outstanding New Year!
    Jenn 🙂

  61. Bridgette says:

My wish is to learn to enjoy Change. I actually love change and the growth it brings. But when EVERYTHING and EVERYONE around me is changing all at once, it is a little hard to handle. I want to enjoy however little or a lot that is happening around me.

  62. Christine says:

    HI Kris;

    A fantastic article, as usual!

I’m so grateful for 2014, that I wish for 2015 to be much of the same and more! I’d like to finish and publish my book, and have it well received. I’d like to continue to be abundant enough to share and to be secure financially. Lastly, I’d like my health to continue to improve and be at my best both emotionally and physically. It’s going to take some energy to accomplish these things, and my body will be in top form to help me out with that!

Have a fantastic Holiday, and to you and all your readers, I wish you inspiration and an abundance of Love all through 2015.

    Christine.

  63. Dawn says:

Great article! I like many of the responders want to get moving towards my businesses thriving in 2015 and living in love and gratitude.

  64. Julie says:

To continue teaching yoga and meditation, but to reach more and more people with it. Continue making more Yoga Nidra CDs and recordings, finish writing my book about savasana, and create more ways for people to pamper themselves with the gift of yoga and meditation. I know that I have the world in the palm of my hand (we all do!); for me it is a matter of staying focused and enjoying the journey instead of seeking the outcome. <3 Thank you Kris for all that you do!

  65. Holly says:

Awesome! Needed that! Thanks 🙂 and Merry X-mas! God bless!!

  66. Julia says:

I wish to be a source of inspiration to others, much like you! I wish to write and create and spread the holistic knowledge I have gained over my 33 years as a vegetarian and help others to heal themselves naturally. 2015 is my year to do what I know in my heart I am meant to do 🙂

  67. Carmen says:

I have just come to the realization (on a deeper, heart-knowing level) that my thoughts are the only thing keeping me from feeling free, self-love and worthiness. I have everything physically in place to live the life I want. Now is the time to feel it and believe it on an emotional and spiritual side.

My wish is to find the courage and love to change those thoughts and see that I’m already living my dream. And to continue to do so with an open heart and gratitude.

What a wonderful reminder….I wish to have unwavering faith in my intuition and know the new job closer to home is about to manifest. Release the fear and embrace the faith as well as BEing present.

I wish to gracefully, continually grow and stretch into who I am and to touch our world in all the ways that I can. Thank you for your bright and beautiful messages, Kris. You are such an inspiration to me. Merry Christmas!! 🙂

A few months ago I was diagnosed with a rare disease and recently discovered this website…thankfully!
All I want from Santa (the Universe) is my health/ my best self…which reminds me of this little holiday diddy…“All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth”
But the universe has some lessons for me first….so while I’m “growing” (in my choppers) I will learn from you Kris, and everyone how to “Believe”.

  71. Angie says:

First, I would like to say thank you for all the wonderful and beautiful gifts that I have been blessed with. My wish… Is to be cancer free forever.

Thank you Kris for being so positive and inspirational.

    Xoxo,
    Angie

  72. Bea says:

Thank you for this Kris! I needed the reminder that Universe IS always listening and waiting for my request. So here it goes again, but this time I’m putting it out there and letting it go, Universe I’ll just ask one last time….I would like to start my new dream job in 2015. I am so eager to meet my wonderful new coworkers and get comfy cozy in my new position! And of course I’m looking for forward to meeting my new boss who is going to mentor me and guide me in this new venture on my life path. Thank you for nudging him/her to hire me even though I had no experience what-so-ever in this field. Universe you ROCK and I love you, have I mentioned that lately?!?

    Love and Hugs!
    Bea

I ask God for a healthy, wanted, mutual, happy, loving, accepting, understanding, respectful, helpful, amazing, romantic, great listener, great communication in partnership, family, and marriage. If it’s God’s will, I pray for Colin and I in a committed relationship!

I’ve asked and prayed for 9 years, perhaps 2015 my prayers are finally answered!!! Thank you

  74. Monica says:

    Kris, loved the photos:)
My wish is to own my own house.
My wish for the world is for people to reach out to seniors that have no family, especially at the holidays. Our elders deserve our love and respect. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy, healthy New Year!!!!

  75. Autumn says:

It is my wish that I can make the right decisions and set up the best care for my Momma who is slowly fading away due to dementia. I feel like I can find peace there if I can make it happen. She loved me so much and gave me so much, I want to return that.

  76. Carissa says:

This is truly the most fantastic time of the year – I always feel like I’m on the precipice of something shiny and possible. I’ve had a bloody wretched year of the rat with a reoccurrence of breast cancer. It’s as gone as it will be now, but my wish is to not only continue to do the hard work to keep it scared off but to recommit to writing my truth to help other badass women conquer the c-dawg.

  77. Suse says:

Dear Soulmate, wherever you are: I am ready!

    PS: Frohe Weihnachten
and a Happy New Year, Kris :))

  79. Katie Lee says:

I love this idea and I too believe that we need to ask the universe for what we want…and then ACT!

    So here goes…

I wish to overcome my fears and resistance to enough to release the book that’s in my mind out into the world…in 2015!

  80. Michele says:

Happy Holidays to you, Kris! You are such an inspiration to me!

I recently had eye surgery. My wish is for my eyes to look the way they were before the surgery when they are healed.

Health, love, peace and happiness xo

  81. Cindi says:

I LOVE the comparison of asking for wishes now to asking Santa for wished when you were a child. I’m sure it touches a familiar part of everyone’s heart, and brings back that magic feeling of possibility!

Life is already a miracle. I only wish to continue to recognise and appreciate all the wishes and miracles that already come true every day. 🙂 Thanks for the wonderful reminder!

  82. Carol says:

Kris – thanks for your inspiration and your words that are always what I need to hear.

To receive an answer to my most weighing mid-life question…what do I want to be when I grow up and how can I make a difference?

To Kris – a most heartfelt Merry Christmas to you & your family and many thanks for always making me smile! You are truly an inspiration!

    Love this article,

I wish for some supernatural income and wisdom. I am ready to walk in change, change for abundance, blessing, clarity, gratitude, fulfillment and overflow. I declare it all mine…..I am worthy “I AM” open to receive all that I proclaim now….YES!

  87. Renee says:

It was so nice to read of another who, too, still loves the thought of Santa, etc. and the whole love, gifting, receiving of the holiday season. It is like a jump start to the shoe year of manifestation.
Happy holiday and thank you for your wonderful blog.

  88. Armida says:

    To be migraines free.

  89. Kris, you are such a sweetie! (I love ‘Elf’ as well- “Smiling is my favourite!”)

Ok Universe, here we are…my wish is to action my big dreams and not be put off if my goals seem out of reach or ‘not what I’m supposed to want’. If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year it’s to listen to my gut and allow myself to be pleasantly surprised by it.

Thank you so much for your help this year Kris- you’re such a shining star! I hope that you have a happy Christmas, and that all your wishes come true as well!

    Katie x
