Hello Glorious You,
Ya know I love my green juice. But there’s another biggie in my regular super-drink repertoire that doesn’t get quite the fanfare my juicing habit does: smoothies! In a typical week, I drink almost as many smoothies as juices, so today I wanna shine a light on these blended superstars.
Why smoothies?
When you go the blended route, you get to pack in a boatload of fruits and veggies like you would for a juice, but you also keep all the fiber—and man oh man, is fiber fabulous! From “sweeping out” excess cholesterol and harmful bacteria to keeping the poop train moving, fiber is most certainly our friend. And although it’s totally possible to keep your juices low-sugar, smoothies are a great choice for people who need to watch their blood sugar—the fiber slows sugar absorption into the bloodstream.
Another marvelous smoothie benefit? You can add ingredients to your drink that your juicer wouldn’t be able to handle, or that just don’t belong in a juice. Sprouts, nut butters, superfood powders? Load it up! And with those added, heartier ingredients, smoothies can even replace snacks or meals. Score!
Alright, so we all agree: Smoothies are incredible and we need more of them in our lives. What’s our first step? Get a blender.

This delicious smoothie will make you feel as though you’re drinking dessert through a straw—but it’ll also help to boost your vitality with healthful fatty acids and greens. Cheers!
PRO TIP: Coconut butter adds a wonderful creaminess and subtly decadent flavor to smoothies—a nice departure from almond or peanut butter, if those are your go-to’s.
Raspberry Revitalizer
Makes 2 Servings (20 to 24 Ounces)
Ingredients
- 1 cup kale, tightly packed
- 1 cup raspberries, frozen
- 1 banana, frozen
- 1 tablespoon coconut butter or coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups nondairy milk of choice
Directions
1. Wash and prep all ingredients.
2. Blend till smooth and serve.

Coconut milk is one of my favorite smoothie ingredients.
Definitely ginger, frozen banana and dark berries.. And i love adding in kale leaves.
I use strawberries, almond milk, kale, blue berries, collagen powder, tsp MCT oil, Jay Rob or Trim Healthy Mama Isolate Protein Powder and Ice…sometimes add green food supplement.
Banana ups my blood sugar…so do not use that any more.
I like to kick up my fall Power Green smoothie with a few good for you, fresh ingredients: 1) Hemp Hearts Seeds (complete vegan protein).
2) Pc of Lemon-Skin On (full pack of vitamins and flavornoids to help fight infections). And my surprise add-in is;
3) Fresh Basil (for that secrect fresh taste). All worthy for a high power blender!

I have two favorite smoothies I try to incorporate into my weekly routines:
1. Green smoothie: Banana, apple or pear, lacinto kale, celery, cilantro, spinach, juice of 1 lime
2. Chocolate smoothie: Banana, orange, juice of 1 lime, almond butter, cacao powder, homemade Brazil nut milk, pinch of cayenne pepper, cinnamon, about 12 almonds for crunch.
The second smoothie really sticks with me the whole morning. It should though, cause it contains lots of calories!!

Avocados can be tricky to always time them correctly where you’re using them at their peak of ripeness for slicing in order to add them to salads and wraps.
You can add even overripe avocados to smoothies and they work well so that you don’t have any more avocados going to waste…

I love putting Maca in my smoothies in the morning. I’ve never liked coffee and the effects of it, but I love the balance of Maca with bananas and coconut milk.
Flax seeds are also one of my favorites! I fill half a small ball jar with the flax seeds, fill with water an inch or so above the seeds, let it soak for at least two hours, and put it in the fridge for the week. I usually use a tablespoon of flax in each smoothie. The water gets soaked up by the flax and the seeds become soft enough to be broken apart in the blender. I use an immersion blender and haven’t had any issues with the seeds not breaking apart. The ground flax give smoothies the ultimate crunch. Banana, flax, almond butter and coconut milk? Pure heaven! They honestly go great with any smoothie though!

For now I just try to blend up with my regular ‘ol blender and it does the job! My favorite ingredients, cause I can’t pick just one, are spinach and cucumber! I always use half a cucumber and 2-3 handfuls of spinach in any of my smoothies. I don’t like super sweet smoothies so I tend to add about 1 cup of some type of frozen fruit to the mix 🙂

i use flax seeds in all my smoothies forOmega-3s mainly, but also to help reach my daily goal of 40g of fiber 😉
In fact, unsweetened psyllium seed, 1 Tbl mixed in water, is also part of my morning regimen for the same reason. A high-fiber diet ( on the order of 40 g daily), research has shown, is associated with a lower risk of recurrence of breast cancer. 🙂

I love adding Spirulina to my smoothies. In addition to it being healthy, it gives my smoothies a beautiful vibrant green color! I also use different liquids depending on my mood or the taste I am going for: chilled tea (the sky is the limit here – any favorite green, black, red, or other herbal tea), coconut water, homemade nut milk, plain water, water kefir, etc.

When I was 18, I had only had fruit smoothies before and then my best friend made a “green” smoothie which I was deathly afraid of. Then once I drank it I fell in love with it and asked her what was in it and she said spinach! In my entire 18 years of living, I had never had spinach (except out of a can, ew). So then it led me to trying fresh spinach which I also loved. Basically, if it weren’t for that smoothie, I probably wouldn’t be eating spinach!

My all-time favorite smoothie ingredient is wild blueberries or organic wild blueberries (frozen). My second choice these days is a variety of Russian kale that is smoother, richer in green color and flatter than the usual. Have been getting it at the local farmers market here in NC. Delicious and great with blueberries, apples and a little banana.

I love making smoothies every day. I use Shakeology with frozen bananas, a leaf of Swiss Chard, some cucumber.
My favorite smoothie recipe: Maca Green Power Smoothie:
1 frozen banana
1/2 C spinach
4 Medjool dates
2 T raw almonds
1/2 T flax seeds
1/2 T maca root powder
1/2 t vanilla extract
1/4 t cinnamon
1/4 t nutmeg
1/4 t powered cardamom
1 C unsweetened almond milk
4 ice cubes
Add all ingredients into blender container. Either use “Smoothies” setting on your Vitamix or simply blend well. Pour into glass and enjoy! Serves 1.

My favorite ingredient is fresh local (when possible) produce. I buy it as it comes into season, and when it’s at its ripest I cut it up and freeze it to use in place of ice cubes for my smoothies. This summer I’ve used CO Palisade peaches, grapes, CO watermelon, honeydew, mango, blueberries, strawberries, banana, and kiwi! I also love using coconut or cashew milk instead of water. (Sorry, that wasn’t just one thing!)

My favorite smoothie ingrédient is avocado! Never knew you could put them into your smoothies until I went to visit a friend in Ubud, Bali last year (he opened a restaurant there). It was my first time in Asia, and I got high on all the smoothies with dragonfruit, Turmeric, etc. But I was apprehensive to try the avocado/lime juice….untillllll…..and then I got hooked! Now I am throwing in avocado’s every chance that I get. It does change the colour somewhat when combined with darker coloured fruits and vegetables, but it makes every smoothie like a dream-cream….go avo!!

1-2 T. Chia seeds
Pulse in your blender or food processor and enjoy

I learned about the healing power of the peeling from a Naturopath Doctor while going to Massage Therapy School. ) Cut those into big chunks; Run it til the ingredients are a pulpy puree…. I then add the rest of the ingredients in stages. ( I have a $25 blender that serves me very well. Just can’t expect it to do what the “BIG BOYS” do! LOL)
I also add flax seed meal and hemp powder.
I of course have altered it to my taste. Its part of my daily day starter.

Hi Kris! It’s *crazy* because I JUST lost my VitaMix that I had for so many years when my house burned down in the Valley Fire in northern Cali the other day. It was the first major purchase I made in my young adult life and I brought it with me to celebrations (marriages, birthdays, dance parties…), and I still used it everyday (to the day I lost it). I discovered a new love of “smooth food” with my VitaMix. There are too many amazing ingredients to choose from but one of the most versatile ingredients in the VitaMix for me is always fresh, young coconut meat (for sweet or savory recipes). My favorite smoothie recipe is loaded with veggies! 1 medium carrot, 1 medium tomato, 1/8 red pepper, 1 celery stalk, handful of spinach. I love how the pepper gives this smoothie a nice zing. Add more or less to fit your taste.

Strawberries are my favorite. They are grown locally & my husband even helped the local farmer plant them & save them from frost one year. We had an abundance of them that year & it was wonderful!
I love adding frozen lemon chunks to all my smoothies. I take organic lemons, wash them well, chop them up into chunks (about 16 per lemon) and freeze them. Then throw 2-4 chunks into each smoothie and blend. They give smoothies a nice freshness as well as a great nutrient burst.

My favorite smoothie ingredient is an avacadodo for a smooth texture and some healthy fats.

#1 flax seed, kept in freezer and ground before adding. That’s prob my most important ingredient along w/ #2 kale or another fresh green, and always #3 berries which I pick in season and freeze.., and #4 frozen cut up banana. But a new fave is goji berries, and another that is becoming standard: cocoa nibs. I make enough drink for 2 days, and freeze the 2nd half. The nibs soften the tiniest bit in the frozen portion and I like chewing on them when i drink the smoothie. They’ve absorbed the berry/banana mix and are ever so slightly sweeter. And tho they don’t make the drink chocolaty, I find they satisfy my choco cravings;-) I do grind the nibs sometimes.., but mostly i just throw the mini nuggets right in. I have also added almond butter, avocado, frozen mango, coconut, beets, apple…, you name it!

My go to recipe is Harmless Harvest 100% raw organic coconut water as the base, 2-3 bananas, 1 cup strawberries, 1 cup blueberries, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 2 kiwis & a handful of spinach!! Add more of each if its for breakfast since that should be your largest meal of the day! Love you Kris!!! 😀

My favorite smoothie ingredient? It’s really hard to pick just one, but since I use bannanas in almost every smoothie that’s the one I’ll pick. I like to let them get nice and ripe (or buy them off the discount shelf already super ripe). I then peel and cut them into 4 pieces and freeze them on wax paper. Once frozen I put them in a plastic freezer bag and voila I have perfectly ripe bananas for smoothies any time I need them. They add a nice texture to any smoothie – especially if you have greens. It keeps the ingredients from floating to the top. I usually use 2 pieces in every smoothie, but the nice thing is that you can adjust more or less depending on what other ingredients I am using.
